To be mounted resting above ceiling joists on sound-insulating weather-stripping on ¾” by 3 ½” wood laid flat to frame around ceiling opening which you will make appropriate to size of the shutter selected (23 7/8” by 23 7/8” for regular roof framing using Dayton brand premium shutter or 29 7/8″ by 29 7/8″ using Dayton brand truss shutter for truss roof framing.
Intermatic spring wound timer switch is simple and of higher quality. It is rated for up to 15 amps and has a Hold Feature which allows you to turn the knob left to continuous run,(“Hold”) or set to it to run any length of time up to 12 hours by turning it to the right.
With the timer on, the higher quality 15 amp two speed rocker switch will select high or low speed. This two speed switch does not have an off position because the timer turns power off to this switch.
If your roof is made with trusses you will need a special shutter that allows the truss to run right through the middle of the opening. That is because you should never cut a truss because it is engineered to be strong only when it is complete with all of its members. There is one panel in the middle of the shutter that does not open and covers the truss. Another option would be to use a regular shutter but lower the ceiling in the area of the fan by about 6 inches so the regular shutter would have room to open entirely below the truss.
If your roof is made with conventional rafters and joists, you just need the regular premium shutter.
